How can I get an application to apply for admission to West Virginia University?

First check with your high school guidance counselor to see if they have an application for admission to WVU.  Most schools in West Virginia will have them.  If you are on our mailing list, you will receive an application.  If you can not obtain one from your guidance counselor, please call (304) 293-2121 and connect with Admissions and Records. You may also obtain an application or apply online at http://admissions.wvu.edu/undergraduate/application/.

What is the deadline for my freshman application for admission?

WVU operates on a rolling admissions basis, beginning September 15 of each year. We strongly encourage you to apply early. Although we have no official application deadline, if you apply later in the year you may be deferred to the spring semester if we reach our fall enrollment capacity. In order to be eligible for scholarships from WVU, you must be admitted by February 1st.

How do I let WVU know I plan to attend?

Once you have been admitted, you must pay an academic deposit of $150 for West Virginia residents and $250 for non-residents to secure your place in the freshman class. After you pay the deposit, you will be sent information about applying for on-campus housing and information about New Student Orientation. If you do not pay the deposit, we will assume you are no longer interested in attending WVU.

What are the minimum requirements for freshmen general admission?

    Minimum Requirements for Application Review
(meeting these requirements does not guarantee admission to the Morgantown campus)

West Virginia residents must have at least a 2.0 grade-point average and either a composite ACT score of 19 or a combined Math and Critical Reading SAT score of 910.

Nonresidents must have at least a 2.5 grade-point average and either a composite ACT score of 21 or a combined Math and Critical Reading SAT score of 990.

Please note that West Virginia University does not mix and match sub scores from different test dates for admissions and scholarship consideration. Only the best composite score is used in determining eligibility.

WVU does not require students to take the optional written component of the ACT examination.

Some programs may have enrollment limitations or additional prerequisites. Letters of recommendation and essays are not required for admission, but the admissions review committee will give all items submitted consideration. For more information about majors and admissions requirements, students may call (304) 293-2121 or refer to our Undergraduate Admissions page.
