How do I get connected to the Internet?

Internet access for electronic mail and World Wide Web use is available free on campus as long as you remain an enrolled, fee-paying student. For those living in the Residence Halls internet access is available in each room. Space you have on WVU resources for email or web pages remains allocated to you during all University holidays and breaks.

For access from an off campus location such as an apartment, you will need to purchase an Internet account from a local ISP for Internet access. The Technology Support Center has information on local ISP's. Contact them through their website, or by phone (304) 293-4972.

Will WVU give me an e-mail account?

All current students are given MIX accounts. MIX is our web platform that allows students to register for classes, check grades, use class-specific chatrooms, and message boards. All admitted freshman and transfer students receive an account.

If you are having difficulty with your MIX account, please contact the Office of Information Technology Help Desk at 304-293-4444 ext 3. Use ext 2 to reset your password.

I am interested in buying a computer and want to know the recommended minimum requirements.

West Virginia University strongly encourages all students to use computers in their studies and course work. Students are further encouraged to purchase, lease, or rent a computer for their use while at the University. For more information on the recommended systems visit : http://tsc.wvu.edu/recommendations.htm
