NARN Activities
Volunteers in the National Alumni Recruiting Network (NARN) of West Virginia University are able to participate in a variety of activities designed to support our recruitment efforts for prospective Mountaineers. The network is comprised of parents, alumni, and friends of the university. Members receive copies of new recruitment brochures annually, and periodically receive newsletters and Listserv messages designed to keep them informed of events and happenings on campus.
College Fairs - NARN members may attend college fairs with WVU’s professional recruitment staff, or may be the sole representative of the university. Priority for registration is given to invitations received from “high-yield” areas of recruitment.
Gold & Blue Phoning Campaign - Each Spring, volunteers are invited to contact newly admitted students within their hometown or major area to offer congratulations and assistance. Contacts can be made via telephone, email, or visits to high schools.
High School Visits/ Guidance Counselor Contacts - Instead of participating in a school-sponsored college fair, volunteers may make special appointments to visit high schools to meet with prospective WVU students. Alumni and Parents Club chapters may also choose to send letters to guidance counselors introducing themselves as a local contact.
Regional Events - Volunteers may assist the university at regional events designed to provide information and assistance to prospective and/or admitted students. NARN members may help with registration, give the welcome, or “mix and mingle” with guests.
Student Referrals - NARN members may refer prospective students to WVU. Referred students will be placed on WVU’s mailing list and will receive a phone call from a current WVU student.
