Each year, the five member Undergraduate Scholarship Office staff awards nearly $2.8 million dollars of scholarships to over 1900 first-year students from West Virginia and around the country. West Virginia high school students may also be eligible for the PROMISE Scholarship, which is awarded by the State of West Virginia. 1300 students in the current freshman class are PROMISE Scholars. An additional 2000 PROMISE scholars are returning for their sophomore and junior years.

The criteria for scholarship awards are based on your high school GPA through the junior year of study, and the test scores from the ACT or SAT. Please note that West Virginia University does not mix and match sub scores from different test dates for admissions and scholarship consideration. Only the best composite score is used in determining eligibility.

To receive priority scholarship consideration , please complete your admissions process to WVU by February 1. This includes submitting your completed undergraduate admission application along with your high school transcript and your ACT/SAT scores. If funding is available, students applying after the priority deadline date may receive scholarship consideration. Please review all deadlines for the various scholarships carefully.

Scholarship awards, combined with financial aid grants, loans, or work study opportunities can offer the student an opportunity to further their study at West Virginia University .
