How to Contact the WVU Scholars Office
Academic Excellence Level 1 Scholars
Non-resident students who demonstrate high academic abilities are eligible to be evaluated for the Academic Excellence Level 1 Scholarship. To be considered, students must have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.80, and a minimum SAT score of 1340 or an ACT score of 30. Students must complete the admissions process by February 1, and submit the Academic Excellence application to be considered. The Academic Excellence Level 1 Scholarship is valued at $11,000 per year for four undergraduate years. Up to 20 Academic Excellence Level 1 Scholarships are awarded annually.
Academic Excellence Level 2 Scholars
Non-resident students who demonstrate high academic abilities are eligible to be evaluated for the Academic Excellence Level 2 Scholarship. To be considered, students must have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.80, and a minimum SAT score of 1340 or an ACT score of 30. Students must complete the admissions process by February 1 to be considered. The Academic Excellence Level 2 Scholarship is valued at $6,000 per year for four undergraduate years.
Blue & Gold Level 1 Scholars
Non-resident students who demonstrate high academic abilities are eligible to be evaluated for the Blue & Gold Level 1 Scholarship. To be considered, students must have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.25, and a minimum SAT score of 1190/ACT 26. Students must complete the admissions process by February 1 to be considered. The Blue & Gold Level 1 Scholarship is valued at $3,000 per year for four undergraduate years.
Blue & Gold Level 2 Scholars
Non-resident students demonstrating academic potential are eligible to be evaluated for Blue & Gold Level 2 Scholarship. To be considered, students must have a minimum high school grade point average of 3.00, and a minimum SAT score of 1030 (ACT 22). Students must complete the admissions process by February 1 to be considered. The Blue & Gold Level 2 Scholarship is valued at $2,000 per year for four undergraduate years.
University Merit
One of the highest academic honors a high school student can achieve is selection as a National Merit Scholar. West Virginia University has dedicated scholarship funds to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to be awarded to non WV resident students who select WVU as their first choice for undergraduate study.
Award Amount: Finalists with a 3.5 high school GPA or higher will receive a $15,000 University Merit Scholarship for up to 8 undergraduate semesters in addition to the National Merit Scholarship and a one-time stipend of $3,500 for study abroad. The scholarship is paid in semester installments of $7,500.
Criteria for Consideration: Awarded to students who select WVU as their first choice for undergraduate study with the National Merit Corporation.
How to Apply: Take the PSAT/NMSQT test as a junior in high school.
