SUMMER SESSION FINANCIAL AID
WVU students interested in financial aid for summer school MUST have on file the 2006-07 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)* and must submit the Summer 2007 Request for Financial Aid. The Summer Financial Aid Application is available on line at www.finaid.wvu.edu beginning the last week of February. Requests for summer aid are reviewed on a rolling basis and are subject to availability of funds. In the event summer financial aid is not processed in time to meet the due date for tuition/fee payment, the student is responsible for paying charges. Any aid which is received on behalf of a student after the charges have been paid will be released to the student.
Financial aid for summer school is limited. Generally, students receive only remaining financial eligibility they may have in entitlement programs (Federal Pell) or receive funds from financial aid programs that were not fully utilized during the preceding fall and spring terms. Undergraduate students who enroll in less than 6 credit hours in the summer will not be eligible for any loan assistance. Graduate students who enroll in less than three credit hours in the summer will not be eligible for any loan assistance. Students who do not pre-register for summer classes may encounter delays in receiving consideration for summer aid.
Transient Students (WVU students taking classes elsewhere) and Study Abroad Students applying for summer financial aid must contact the WVU Financial Aid Office. Additional documentation is required before aid will be processed and released. Students from other colleges taking summer classes at WVU must contact their home school to apply for financial aid.
*The 2006-07 FAFSA is NOT used to determine eligibility for 2007 summer aid. The 2006-07 FAFSA which is used to determine eligibility must be filed by June 30, 2007 in order to be valid.

PLUS loans require a consumer credit check before approval is granted by US Department of Education.
Federal Pell Grants may be available to undergraduate students who were not full time during 2006-07 fall or spring terms. The amount of the grant is contingent upon the number of credit hours in which the student is enrolled at the end of add/drop period. Students who have been full time in the 2006-07 fall and spring terms are not eligible for Pell Grants in the summer.
Federal Work Study will be awarded to eligible undergraduate students who are enrolled in at least 3 credit hours in the summer session for which an award is requested. Employment is part-time and students are paid based upon the number of hours worked. Federal Work Study will not offset the tuition charges for courses taken.
Students who are NOT enrolled in summer sessions but are scheduled for at least 6 credit hours in Fall 2007 may be eligible for full time summer employment through Federal Work Study Program. These earnings are considered a part of the student’s 2007-08 financial aid package.
