TRANSIENT APPROVAL PROCESS

If you want to take courses at another institution and receive WVU credit, visit our Transfer Equivalency System on-line.

ON-LINE ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Get the schedule of courses from the college(s) you want to attend.

2. Visit the Transfer Equivalency System to determine which course(s) transfer as the WVU course(s) you want to take. Then, check the schedule of courses to see if the course(s) you want are offered at the college(s) you are going to attend. Make a printed copy of the course translation(s) from the Transfer Equivalency System.

3. Once you have the course(s) selected, visit your academic advisor and take the printed translation(s) with you. Your advisor will give you the Transient Application Form (or take it with you) and permission to take the course(s). If you are considering more than one college, you will need to complete a separate form for each college.

4. Complete ALL information on the top part of the form. Discuss with your advisor the course(s) you want to take and enter the Approved Institution course(s) and the WVU Equivalent course(s) on the form in the appropriate place.

5. Get all the necessary signatures on the form (including your own). Leave your form and copy of the printed course translation(s) with your advisor/department and they will send them both to Admissions and Records.

6. If you have an overall GPA of 2.0, we will send a copy of the Transient Form to the college you have selected (if not, we'll hold the form). You must make arrangements to get admitted and enrolled at this college.

7. Have an official transcript sent to WVU after you have completed your
course(s). Remember to take ONLY the course(s) you have approved on your form. If you want to take other courses, you must get permission from your advisor and complete another form.

IF THE COLLEGE YOU WANT TO ATTEND IS NOT ON-LINE:

1. Get the schedule of courses from the college(s) you want to attend.

2. Visit your academic advisor in order to get the Transient Application Form (or take it with you) and permission to take the course(s) you are considering. If you are considering more than one college, you will need to complete a separate form for each college.

3. Complete ALL information on the top part of the form and enter ONLY the WVU Equivalent course(s) you want to take (i.e. Math 126, Engl 101). Be sure to list several course options in case the course you want is not offered (this will save you a trip back to your advisor!).

4. Visit the Office of Admissions and Records(upstairs) between 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Be sure to bring your Transient Form, schedule of courses, and course descriptions. We will determine the equivalent course(s) you need to take at the college you have selected.
