Why it is important to read the orientation information and confirmation brochures?
The orientation office will send you several important brochures discussing our orientation program. It is very important that you read these brochures and handouts before filling out your reservation form.

When will I receive information about Orientation?
For students enrolling in the Fall semester, the informational brochure and reservation form is sent in March. Freshmen students enrolling in the Fall semester need to pay the academic deposit in order to receive orientation materials. If you do not pay the academic deposit, we assume you are not attending WVU.
For students enrolling in the Spring semester, the informational sheet and reservation form is sent in December.

When should I send in my orientation reservation form?
You should send your orientation reservation form in as soon as possible, as it would be more likely we would assign you to the session you selected.

Can I pick my orientation session date in June?
You may select your top three choices to attend. If you must come on a specific date, please write the specific date that you wish to attend on the reservation form or attach a brief note to your reservation form. We will try to meet your request. However, the sooner you send in your orientation reservation form, the more likely that we can meet your request.
When making a specific request, be sure the date you select is listed in the informational brochure as the same type of session you wish to attend. For example, if you want to attend a standard one day session, please make sure the specific date you request is listed as a standard session.

Are freshmen pre-registered for classes?
Each incoming freshmen who registers for Summer or Fall orientation is pre-registered for 9 to 12 hours of introductory courses based on your major. During orientation you will meet with an academic advisor to add additional courses and/or drop any of the pre-registered courses that you don’t wish to take. Because you are pre-registered for these classes, coming at an earlier or later date typically does not affect your class availability. We strongly recommend students who are enrolled for the Fall semester attend orientation in June. On August 1, the University typically opens the on-line STAR registration system to students who registered at June orientation.
Transfer students are not pre-registered for classes, but may use the STAR registration system prior to attending orientation. Students attending orientation in January are not pre-registered for classes.

When will I receive my orientation confirmation?
For students enrolling for the Spring semester, we typically send out orientation confirmation materials in December. For students enrolling for the Fall semester, orientation confirmation materials are sent in early May.
In order to receive confirmation materials you must have submitted an orientation reservation form to the orientation office.

Can I switch my orientation session to another date in June?
It is important you attend your assigned session. With your request, we have reserved a date based upon your major and session availability. We have tried to assign you to your preferred session. We attempt to ensure everyone receives their first choice, but if certain dates were already full, you’ve been given the next available date. Therefore, it is important for you to send in your orientation reservation form with your particular request as soon as possible. However, if you cannot attend your assigned session date, we may be able to change you to another session depending upon session availability.
