I just don’t understand placement exams?

Included in your orientation information packet is a placement exam handout and a brochure containing an entire section devoted to placement exams. If you have additional questions, please feel free to call us at 304-293-2264 or e-mail orientation@mail.wvu.edu.

Some Orientation sessions do not offer placement exams as part of the program, but they are offered shortly after the program.

Are parents allowed in the room while students are registering for course?

Advisors do not allow parents and guests in the room while students are doing course registration. However, parents/guests do have an opportunity to meet with their student’s academic advisor prior to course registration. During that session, parents/guests can ask the advisor any questions that they may have about the student’s schedule or major program.

How do I switch my major and will that affect my orientation program and date?

To change your major, please fill out the change of major form and follow the instructions on returning the form to Admissions and Records. Changing your major will not dramatically affect your orientation session. If your major is not changed prior to your orientation session, you can do so during your advising session.

What if I am transferring credit from another school or have AP/CLEP credit?

If you are transferring credits from another institution to WVU, please make sure that you send your transcript to WVU. You can mail your transcript to:

West Virginia University
Admissions & Records
PO Box 6009
Morgantown, WV 26506-6009

You may be pre-registered for courses you have already taken at another institution if your transcripts have not already been received prior to your orientation session. To determine what your courses transfer into WVU as, you can visit our Transfer Course Equivalency System website. It is helpful if you also bring a copy of your transcript with you to orientation.

If you have AP/CLEP credit, please bring copies of your scores with you to WVU. To determine if your scores receive credit, please visit our AP/CLEP equivalence website. If you do not know your scores yet, you may make changes to your schedule if needed once you receive your scores.
